Travel Podcasts: Visas, Vietnam, and Tiger Travelers

Each week, Frommer's brings you two fresh podcasts stuffed with travel tips, news, and inspiration. Recordings are made from our weekly call-in show on WABC and our nationally syndicated radio program.

First up this week, Frommer's editorial director Pauline Frommer describes her recent trip to Vietnam with World Spree—"by far, the best tour I've ever taken," she says. Cohost and Frommers.com editor-in-chief Jason Cochran reveals details of the newly announced travel authorization that Americans will need in order to visit Europe starting in 2021. And both hosts mourn the soon-to-close journalism-focused Newseum in Washington, D.C.

Callers get answers to some perennial head scratchers relating to exchanging currency, timing the purchase of airfare, and finding a good tour company.

In our other podcast, company founder and namesake Arthur Frommer laments Carnival Cruise Line's plans to install a roller coaster aboard the new Mardi Gras ship, coming in 2020. Arthur has no interest in what he considers "theme parks" at sea.

"You don't regard me as a kind of curmudgeon?" he asks his daughter, Pauline.

Her response: "I do."

Savage, as the kids would say.

Later, Pauline chats with Catharine Hamm of the Los Angeles Times about her recent story uncovering a "phenomenon that hasn't gotten a lot of attention": the fierce and fearless travelers over age 55 whom Hamm dubs "tiger travelers" with the "right combination of age, experience and openness to keep on growing no matter where they’re going."

Also in this episode: Author John Keahey makes us swoon with scenes from his book Sicilian Splendors: Discovering the Secret Places That Speak to the Heart; and Afar contributor Natasha Bourlin discusses how storytelling, technology, and whimsical cuisine are giving dinner theater a whole new act at restaurants around the world.
