The Refinery has a sophisticated, celebratory vibe, thanks to the jazz soundtrack that echoes through the lobby (recorded during the day, at night live in the handsome lobby bar); the view-rich rooftop bar/restaurant; and the clever ways it pays homage to the manufacturing roots of this 1912 Garment Center building, once a hat factory: Singer sewing machine tables are used as desks in the guest rooms, and an installation behind the front desk features old millinery tools. Rooms come in a range of sizes, starting at a respectable 250 square feet, but feel bigger than they are thanks to 12-foot-high ceilings and large windows. Original abstract artwork, oak hardwood floors, and custom furniture up the design ante. Bathrooms feature marble mosaic floors, polished brass fixtures, and rainfall showers. All in all, this is a very nice place to stay.
