Frommers.com Airfare Deals and News for the Week of December 29, 2006

Click through to get the skinny on the latest, best and cheapest airfares available right now, including summer business-class deals from British Airways and a system-wide sale from Southwest.

Southwest Systemwide Sale

Southwest Airlines (tel. 800/435-9792; www.southwest.com) is having another system-wide sale with special fares on almost all its routes throughout the country. This sale is not as good as some previous sales, as fares are a bit higher. Southwest currently accepts reservations through May 10, 2007. Purchase your ticket by January 22, 2007. There is a 14-day advance purchase requirement. These fares are only available on the airline's website.

London Business Class Sale

British Airways (tel. 800/247-9297; www.ba.com) is offering a summer business class sale for travel to London from all its U.S. gateways. These are really remarkable deals, perhaps in response to the growing number of cheaper all-business class airlines flying to London such as EOS, MaxJet and Silverjet. Below are some sample fares with the discount including taxes and fees:

Depart July 12, Return July 19

  • New York (JFK) to London $2,488 with Delta matching
  • Los Angeles to London $3,101 with American matching

Depart August 14, Return August 21

  • Chicago to London $3,404 vs. $2,850 on Northwest
  • Washington to London $3,124 vs. $1,923 on Maxjet to London-Stansted

Travel outbound between July 1, 2007 and September 2, 2007 and purchase by February 1, 2007, subject to seat availability (better book these fast, because we think they'll be sell outs). Round-trip purchase is required as is a minimum Saturday-night stay, but you can stay up to 11 months from date of departure.

AA to Mexico and the Caribbean

American Airlines (tel. 800/433-7300; www.aa.com) is offering a sale on travel to Mexico and the Caribbean. Below are some sample fares including taxes and fees:

Depart February 11, Return February 19

  • Atlanta to Cozumel, Mexico $380 vs. $350 on Delta
  • Baltimore to Monterrey $385 vs. $377 on Continental

Depart February 20, Return February 28

  • Boston to Aruba $402 vs. $401 on U.S. Airways
  • Los Angeles to Montego Bay $539 vs. $482 on US Airways

As you can see, most of these fares have been beaten by other carriers, and thanks to international taxes, fees, and surcharges, they're not exactly bargain basement -- although Baltimore to Monterrey is pretty cheap considering the distance flown. Begin travel between January 10, 2007 and February 27, 2007. All travel must be completed by March 1, 2007. Purchase your ticket by January 3, 2007.

Budapest, Dusseldorf & Nice

Delta Airlines (tel. 800/221-1212; www.delta.com) has discounted fares from Atlanta to Dusseldorf and New York JFK to Budapest or Nice. Below are some sample fares including all taxes and fees:

Depart February 14, Return February 22

  • New York JFK to Budapest $653 vs. $562 on Alitalia
  • New York JFK to Nice $559 vs. $506 on Swiss

Depart March 27, Return April 7

  • Atlanta to Dusseldorf $494 vs. $516 on Northwest

As you can see, most of these fares have been matched or beaten by other airlines. However, Delta offers nonstop flights. Begin travel between January 9, 2007 and March 31, 2007. All travel must be completed by April 30, 2007. Purchase your tickets by January 9, 2007.

Korean Air to China

Korean Air (tel. 800/438-5000; www.koreanair.com) is offering discounted fares to China from Atlanta and New York. Below are some sample fares including taxes and fees:

Depart January 25, Return February 5

  • New York to Beijing $1,005 vs. $775 on Continental from Newark
  • New York to Shanghai $1,005 vs. $767 on American

Depart February 1, Return February 12

  • Atlanta to Shanghai $1,005 vs. $797 on American

As you can see, this isn't much of a sale. Begin travel between January 15, 2007 and February 28, 2007. There is a three month maximum stay. Purchase your tickets by January 10, 2007.
