Frommers.com Airfare Deals and News for the Week of July 10, 2009

Midwest drops fares for each of its destinations, Frontier slashes it's own prices, two airlines make Asia cheaper, and more special offers from the friendly skies.

Midwest Sale Across the Board

Midwest Airlines (tel. 800/452-2022; www.midwestairlines.com) is having a late summer and fall travel sale to every city on their route map.

Here are the finer details:

Purchase by Friday, July 17th. 21-day advance purchase required. Good for travel on Tuesday/Wednesday. A minimum three-night stay may be required. Seats are limited. Tickets must be bought at the airline's website.

Travel valid between July 28 through November 18th except for: travel to/from Las Vegas, Orlando, Phoenix, San Francisco, Seattle/Tacoma, and Tampa (Sept. 1-Nov. 18); travel to/from Louisville (Aug. 2-Nov. 18).

Fares include:

Other news: Starting Saturday, August 1st, Midwest Airlines will offer non-stop service between Milwaukee and Los Angeles. Previously, to fly between those cities, you had to change planes/stop in Kansas City. Roundtrip fares start at $238.

Whale of a Sale from Frontier

Frontier's (tel. 800/432-1359; www.frontierairlines.com) Whale of a Sale is good for Tuesday-Wednesday travel from August 10 through January 15. Fares require a 14-day advance purchase, and all bookings must be made by 9:59 pm MDT, July 14.

Fares include:

Japan Airlines Super Sale Fares to Asia

Japan Airlines (tel. 800/525-3663; www.ar.jal.com) is having a sale to select cities in Asia, none of which happen to be in Japan. This sale is good for Monday through Thursday travel in late summer and early fall. All fares must be booked July 21 and include:

Martinair Summer Sale to Amsterdam

If you missed last month's flurry of cheap fares to Europe, don't give up hope just yet. Well, ok, maybe you can give up hope a little bit. I mean, you won't be zipping off to Zurich for $290 round-trip, including taxes during peak summer. But there are still deals to be had, even this late in the game. Martinair (tel. 800/627-8462; www.martinair.com) is offering reasonable fares from Miami to Amsterdam, departing July 1 through August 31.

Asiana Airlines Promo for Fall

And yet another sale to Asia! This one comes from Asiana Airlines (tel. 800/227-4262; www.flyasiana.com) and is good for fall travel through December. Sale fares are based on weekday travel, so tack on an additional $80 if you'd like to fly on a weekend. Fares include:

Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games

With 7 months to go, Vancouver is gearing up to host the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The main Olympic Games will take place Feb. 12-28, 2010, followed by the Paralympic Games from March 12-21, 2010.

As the world converges on Vancouver, Airfarewatchdog offers up some advice for your trip.

JetAmerica Delays Launch

JetAmerica announced last week that they are "self-imposing a 31-day delay of the launch of its first flights, which were originally scheduled for July 13, 2009 but are now slated to take-off on August 14, 2009." So what do you do if you already have ticket for a late July/early August flight? More on this in the blog.
