10 Outstanding Year-End Deals (and the Lowest Fares to Get You There)

Christmas may be the most wonderful time of the year, but any travel addict will agree that the next couple of weeks are a lock for second place. Why? It's quite simple. Nobody's traveling. Roads are empty, airports almost relaxed, beaches quiet, ski resorts open but not packed, and hotel rooms can be cheaper than staying home.

In this short but excellent space in time, much of the world (well, places you don't have to spend a ton of money to fly to) is your oyster. This is, for example, a fantastic time for domestic road trips, or visits to Mexico and Canada. Sometimes, the bargains are so seriously good, it's enough to make you want to cancel Christmas (and New Year's) and take your time off now.

Check out our 10 picks for year-end deals.

From the Mailbag: Holiday Availability

Q: I'm trying to find a good fare to fly home for New Year's, but not having much luck. I see you have a fare of $158 round-trip (with no blackout dates listed) that covers the dates around New Year's, but I cannot book it. Whenever I follow the links and attempt to book the fare on Travelocity, they show my dates as available on their calendar, but when I click on them they are X'ed out as unavailable. What is up with this?

A: Read on.
