Carnival Cruise Line is significantly increasing its sailings to Cuba.
In 2019, the company will schedule 17 new cruises to the island aboard the recently renovated Carnival Sensation.
The five-day voyages will be the line's first round-trip cruises to Cuba from Miami. They'll feature a day-long call in Havana as well as stops in Grand Turk, Grand Cayman, Nassau, and the private destinations of Half Moon Cay and Princess Cays.
In Cuba, guests can choose from nearly 20 shore excursions that meet the U.S. government's requirement that American visitors participate in pre-approved cultural activities while on the island. That's all part of rules reinstated by the Trump Administration last year, reversing President Obama's steps toward making it easier for Americans to travel to Cuba.
Because the excursions satisfy all government requirements, according to the company's press release, passengers don't have to worry about booking further "person-to-person" activities.
As for the ship, the 2,052-passenger Sensation has recently received numerous additions in the food and beverage department. Those include a burger joint from Food Network host Guy Fieri, poolside bars, a Tex-Mex cantina, a sweets shop, and a "pharmacy-themed" cocktail lounge, whatever that means.
In addition to the Sensation sailings, Carnival will continue cruising to Cuba from Tampa via the Carnival Paradise.
