Palm Springs has launched a free trolley service, Palm Springs Buzz, enabling visitors to more easily visit without a car—or after more sangrias.
Buzz runs Thursday through Sunday every 15 minutes from 11am to 1am the next morning. Essentially, it goes down Palm Canyon to Smoketree, and up Indian and Palm Canyons to Via Escuela—that's a big L shape that covers 10.5 miles of most of the major restaurants, hotels, and shops in the downtown area. (View a map here.) It doesn't go to the airport or to the popular Aerial Tramway (but many hotels operate their own shuttles to those places).
The vehicles run on compressed natural gas. Visitors can also download an app that tells them when the next one's arriving—but operators shoot for every 15 minutes.
The program, which is paid for by state and local funds, is slated to test until December. If it receives enough passengers, it will continue.
