The Quality Inn International has long been one of the most reliable budget properties off International Drive in Orlando. Harris Rosen bought it back in 1974, and using it as a foundation, built an Orlando hotel empire that now numbers more than 6,300 guest rooms, from dead cheap to business-class luxury.  In a bid to solidify his personal brand name, he has finally gotten around to attac...

We just got a dispatch from Florida, where SeaWorld Orlando confirms it has joined Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando in hiking ticket prices past the $90 mark. SeaWorld Orlando's single-day admission is now $92 adult, $84 children (ages 3 to 9), plus tax. Busch Gardens Tampa has also raised prices, but it still shy of the $90 threshhold: $89 adult, $81 children aged 3 to 9. T...

On June 29, the most lavish of America's four final homes for the former space shuttle orbiters will open. The Atlantis will admit visitors on the very grounds where it launched 33 successful missions over its lifetime. I was given a special preview of the 90,000-square-foot Atlantis Orbiter Home — and it's gorgeous. Some aspects of the permanent display are still under wraps, but the core...

The Mouse has roared again. Each year it raises prices on us, and it did it again. A one-day, one-park ticket to its Magic Kingdom park now costs $6 more, or $95, and kids (which in Orlandoland are only children until age 9) cost $89. Interestingly, it is not hiking its other three Florida parks to the same level. They will be $90 adults/$84 kids. Disneyland broke the $90 wall, too. That's...

On Friday, SeaWorld opens its new attraction, the multimillion-dollar Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin, which Frommers.com named one of the most hotly anticpated amusement park additions of the season. Although it is at heart an animal habitat for some 250 gentoo, Adelie, king, and rockhopper penguins, the faux-icy pavilion also hosts a ride that, at least in execution, is an Orlando innovati...

Walt Disney World in Orlando has just turned on its new beta site, Reviews.DisneyWorld.Disney.Go.Com, where the vacation giant is soliciting user-generated reviews from customers. Right now, most of the reviews are glowing, which in Disney's Cyber World means a rating of — you guessed it — five Mouse Heads. "For a moment, you feel as if you are in Italy," gushes one review of an Italian re...

The massive show building for the new section has been under construction for months, but it took until now for the official announcement to be made. The theme park isn't saying much beyond the fact it will open at...

It's one of the best-kept secrets in vacationing: the annual Florida Drive Out.   This is the time of year when the big rental car companies need to rebalance the distribution of their fleets. To convince customers to help them shift their inventory away from winter vacation destinations by the start of the summer travel season, they mark down their prices to nutty levels. And I mean c...
