Euromania! London Packages Just Got Cheaper, plus Budget-Priced Rooms Across the Continent

October 15, 2003 -- There they go again! Go-Today.com, having pushed the limits almost everywhere else is steadily snipping prices, this time in a favorite spot for American travelers -- London. If you can make your reservations by October 23, 2003, you have a chance to visit London through the winter from a low base price of $349 out of the New York area and before taxes.

That's the rate in a package that includes the roundtrip transportation across the Atlantic on available air carriers, six nights in the Kings Hotel -- located just off the northwest corner of Kensington Gardens in a residential neighborhood, daily continental breakfast, hotel tax and hotel service charges. You can travel between November 1 and December 10, 2003, or between January 11 and March 24, 2004. Additional fees include $109 per person in security fees and airport taxes and $10 for mailing your documents -- you'll end up paying $463 per person/$926 per couples. A final -- but avoidable -- fee is the $25 per leg for departures on Friday through Mondays, meaning try to fly out on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays.

Add-on prices are not high, the same package (using the Kings Hotel) from Boston or Philadelphia is $399, from Washington, D.C. is $449, from Chicago or Miami $499, and from the West Coast (Los Angeles, San Francisco or Seattle) $529. There are many, many gateways and hotel upgrades and Go-Today's site handily lists each with its additional cost.

Space is limited and subject to availability. Contact Go-Today at www.gotoday.com or phone them at 425/487-9632. It will cost you an extra $20 to book over the phone. Call for information, but book online.

Already Have Your Airfare, but Need a Room?

If you're one of the many who took advantage of airfare sales by Lufthansa/United and American Airlines we reported on last week, we've found a hotel sale just for you. Check out new "squid" on the block Octopus Travel, which says it has over 19,000 discounted establishments worldwide, from budget hotels to 5-star show palaces. At the site, www.octopustravel.com, you can choose which languages you want (English, Spanish, French, Japanese, Chinese, etc.) to use online, too. They have double rooms as low as $74 in London including service and local taxes, as well as breakfast (in fact, we found 18 hotels there that offered nightly rates under $100 for stays during November). We found rooms in Amsterdam for $80, Paris from $64, Prague from $35 and Rome at $67.
