Czech Out These Low Prague Prices

September 1, 2002 -- We've seen travel prices rise and fall with the seasons, with each burp in the economy, and with each terror alert and the calm that inevitably follows the Sturm und Drang. Now to reward us for our patience come some fantastic deals on trips to Prague - with prices starting at less than $90 a night, including airfare.

Nordique (800/995-7997 weekdays 8 to 5:30 PDT; www.picassotours.com), a division of Picasso Tours, is offering a super savings deal to Prague beginning at just $359 per person (double occupancy) for a four-night package. This steal also includes roundtrip airfare from New York City to Prague and daily breakfast at three-star hotels such as the Denise. You must book by September 30, 2004, for travel from November 1, 2004 through March 31, 2005.

The cost varies depending on the day of the week you travel and your US departure city. The $359 nets you a Wednesday or Thursday departure. Other days of the week will run you an extra $30 per person, and you can add another $20 to that if you want to travel on the weekend. You can upgrade to pricier hotels or stay longer, of course. Holiday surcharges apply and all packages are subject to availability.

Charges from other departure cities include $409 from Boston or Philadelphia and $459 from Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, Miami, Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. It's $509 from Dallas, Denver, Houston and Phoenix; and $574 from Los Angeles, Portland OR, San Francisco and Seattle.

Tatra Travel

A specialist in the Czech Republic, Tatra Travel (www.tatratravel.com) has a three-night Thanksgiving Special to Prague from just $489 out of New York or Newark, which works out to just $163 per night. This four-day trip price includes the airfare, hotel lodging in 3-star centrally located Orion or Sibelius, daily buffet breakfast, private roundtrip transfers between airport and hotel, and a half-day city sightseeing tour of Prague with an English-speaking guide.

Add on the following amounts for connecting flights: from Atlanta or Chicago $169, Boston or Washington, D.C. $109, Los Angeles $309, Miami $199, and Houston $239. Other cities are also available, so definitely ask if yours isn't listed.

Thanksgiving Off-Peak

The friendly folks at online-only Off Peak Traveler.com (www.offpeaktraveler.com) have their own Thanksgiving Special to Prague, costing $499 per person. The package includes roundtrip air from New York, three nights lodging with private bath at the Stirka Hotel, and daily continental breakfast. This works out to just over $166 per person per night. Note that service charges and taxes are $159 per person additional. You have the option of a London stopover for three nights at $200 per person in a double, which includes daily continental breakfast, hotel service charges and taxes.

Note that none of the air-inclusive packages above includes the cost of airport taxes and security fees.
