September 27, 2004 -- From now through mid-December 2004 there are dozens of good-value vacations in the Caribbean. Here are a couple that are currently available.
At Aruba's La Cabana All Suite Beach Resort & Casino, US Airways Vacations (800/352-8747; www.gousv.com) has a discount package that offers a savings of $50 per person plus 15% off room rates on bookings that are for at least four nights. Here are some samples of five-day (four-night) air-inclusive vacations, valid for Monday departures from now through December 13, 2004: $722 per person out of New York (LGA) or Philadelphia, $781 from Boston or Washington DC; and $818 from Albany (NY), Syracuse or Charlotte (NC).
The price includes roundtrip air on US Airways, lodging at the resort, roundtrip airport/hotel transfers, hotel taxes and service charges, and more. At the time of booking, you must give them the promotional code, LACABANA. Departures are available from other gateways, too. Note that the prices mentioned do not include airport taxes and security fees.
Pricey as Nevis usually is, there are occasional good value vacations, such as the ones we reported about in the May 28, 2004 and July 15, 2004 newsletters. Here's another good one: If you stay at the charming Nisbet Plantation (800/742-6008; www.nisbetplantation.com) here between October 15 and December 15, 2004, you can save $600 on any stay of six nights or longer. Rooms at this oceanfront resort start as low as $1140 for six nights for two persons from October 15 through 31, 2004, a savings of 67% off the high season rates. From November 1 through December 15, 2004, the same superior room for two costs $1440 for six nights, which is 58% less than the winter rate. These two rates work out to $95 per person per night and $120 per person per night, respectively.
The price includes full American breakfast, afternoon tea and a three-course dinner for two daily. Extra costs include a 10% service charge and a 9% government tax.
