Located in a gorgeous Victorian house, the Abingdon Visitors Center is on the left as you drive into town on U.S. 58. It's open daily from 9am to 5pm. Getting There & Getting Around -- Tri-Cities Regional Airport (tel. 423/325-6000; www.triflight.com) is near I-81 about 30 miles southwest of Abingdon between Bristol and Kingsport, Tennessee. You can rent a car there.
Abingdon is at the junction of I-81 and U.S. 11, U.S. 19, and U.S. 58. From I-81, take Exit 17 and follow U.S. 58 West directly into town. U.S. 11 runs east-west along Main Street (which has a phenomenal amount of traffic for such a small town). The local taxi depot is at 495 W. Main St. (tel. 276/628-4409).
