Originally just a series of trails through primary and secondary forests alongside La Paz River, with lookouts over a series of powerful falls, this attraction has expanded over the years into a multifaceted nature experience.. In addition to the orchid garden and a hummingbird garden, a huge butterfly garden draws crowds, as does the small serpentarium, featuring a mix of venomous and nonvenomous native snakes, and several terrariums containing frogs and lizards. There’s also a section of wildcats and local monkey species in large enclosures. Although the admission fee is steep, everything is well done, especially the trails and waterfalls. That said, some find the whole operation a little artificial in feel. Still it’s a good place to get a broad experience in one compact package, especially for families with young children. This is also a nice stop after a morning visit to the Poás Volcano. Plan to spend 3 to 4 hours here. The hotel rooms here at Peace Lodge are some of the nicest in the country.
