Some are free, while others charge a fee of around $10; most are offered from July to the end of August. Canal Pilot, Waterford (tel. 518/928-1863), does custom boat tours of the Hudson River as well as Lake Erie and Champlain canals. Hart Tours, 1 Becker Terrace, Delmar (tel. 800/724-4225 or 518/439-6095), is a tour operator that has 1-, 2-, and 3-day area itineraries, including tours of the Adirondacks and Capital District.
