The supply of good downtown hotels in Albany is woefully limited for a state capital. By far the best choice is one of the small B&B/boutique inns that have cropped up to take the place of larger hotels. Most decent hotels of any size, which tend to be standard hotel and motel chains, are on the outskirts of town, in a suburb called Colonie.

Hotel & Motel Chains in the Albany Area

If none of the recommended hotels are available -- and Albany can get crowded during large conventions and when lobbyists are swarming the capital -- try one of the following hotel chains, which are mostly located on the outskirts of downtown, near the airport: Best Western Albany Airport Inn (200 Wolf Rd., Albany, NY 12205; tel. 800/310-6143 or 518/458-100;; $99-$129 double); Holiday Inn Albany (205 Wolf Rd., Albany, NY 12205; tel. 518/458-7250;; $115-$149 double); Quality Inn Hotel Albany (Everett Rd., Albany, NY 12206; tel. 518/438-8431;; $85-$105 double); Red Roof Albany Inn (188 Wolf Rd., Albany, NY 12205; tel. 518/459-1971;; $79-$109 double); Courtyard by Marriott (168 Wolf Rd., Albany, NY 12205; tel. 800/321-2211 or 518/482-8800;; $99-$169 double); or Days Inn Wolf Road (16 Wolf Rd., Albany, NY 12205; tel. 800/329-7466;; $80-$110 double).
