Museo Arqueológico

The structure itself is perhaps the greatest artifact in this local history museum. It occupies a portion of the Roman ruins (La Cueva de Siete Palacios) set into the city hills. The rather elegant vaulted space contains artifacts from the various cultures that once called Almuñécar home, including the Romans, Moors, and Phoenicians. The most unusual artifact suggests the cosmopolitan nature of the historic city. It’s an Egyptian glass with hieroglyphics that date from the 17th century b.c. Carved from solid quartz, the antique curiosity most likely reached Almuñécar aboard a trading vessel.
