Casa de Calçada

A member of the prestigious Relais & Chateaux group, Casa de Calçada is a five-story mansion in lemon-yellow tones dating back to the 1600s. Its location is a romantic one, besides the Tâmega looking across to the historic heart of Amarante. All but the cheapest rooms have views of the city, several have balconies. Furnishings are plush, in a classical style, with velvet armchairs, damask drapes, soft lighting and huge vases of fresh flowers. There's a spacious garden and outdoor swimming pool, spa and nearby golf course. Onsite: in the Largo do Paço restaurant, holder of a Michelin star. Chef André Silva plates food almost too-pretty to eat with creations like cod and clams with trout roe, pak choi and cilantro, or lamb with artichokes, morel mushrooms and pistachios in red wine sauce.
