Whether you’re a bona fide member of the jet set or you just want to pretend, this is the place for you. Seven bungalows are spread across this 4-acre private island. Each is luxurious, elegantly appointed, set on the ocean’s edge, and staffed by at least one houseman, who can be contacted at any time by radio. All villas except the overwater bungalow have a private plunge pool; the borrowing of kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, or overwater trampolines can be arranged anytime. The rooms have wide French doors and windows that open onto private decks and verandas and stunning views. Six of the seven come with a private pier. There’s no restaurant or common lounge area here, as most guests want to maintain their privacy. Instead, all meals are served in your villa or out on your private deck or dock area. Guests are surveyed prior to arrival so the chef can prepare meals based on preferences, housemen can know how much you want them around, and any other decadent need can be met. Service is attentive and pampering, the food is excellent, and their cigar menu is impressive, as it was designed and fulfilled by Carlos of Havana Cigars in San Pedro. Cayo Espanto is located just off the western tip of Ambergris Caye, about 7 minutes by boat from San Pedro.
