Those who really want to get away from it all should look no further than Cayo Frances Farm & Fly, a fly-fishing camp 12 miles north of San Pedro accessible only by boat. It makes for a relaxing departure from civilization, and the kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding are phenomenal given the glassy, shallow water at this part of the caye. Lodging is limited, though growing, and rustic but comfortable. Sleeping areas are in cabins separate from a shared bathroom building and a common area with a kitchen, bar, and Wi-Fi. Meals are prepared by owner Jeff Spiegel, a former professional chef, and reflect his talent and experience. Perhaps my favorite experience here is the nightly bonfire, the perfect way to socialize while gazing at the beautiful, untainted night sky.
