In the shadow of the looming castle is this welcoming and reasonably priced hotel, set in a magical restored 18th-century mansion. Built on the foundations of an ancient convent, the hotel is made up of the main building, draped in wisteria, and a small annexed cottage, centered by a tranquil garden. Once inside, you feel like you’ve entered a fine aristocratic home, with tasteful furnishings and decorations chosen with a careful eye to detail. The most charming rooms are in the main building, especially those in the attic with their beautiful exposed beams (though tall guests might have trouble with the slanted ceilings). The rooms in the annex aren’t as quaint but are more spacious. Many second- and third-floor rooms open to views of the Loire or the château. A few rooms only have a bathtub (with a shower head), which may not appeal to all guests.
