The welcome couldn’t be warmer at this lovely ivy-covered manor house run by a family of English expatriates, a short drive from Amboise. With their cross-cultural approach, the Newingtons turned a rundown farmhouse into the perfect mélange of Anglo-Saxon comfort and French sophistication. This attention to detail is evident from the intimate foyer to the spacious guest rooms; several of which have private terraces. With peaceful surroundings and plenty to do on the extensive grounds, this is an excellent base for château touring and some family fun. The hotel also has an excellent restaurant serving food infused with regional and international flavors. Items on the fixed-price menus might include roasted cod, with squash purée topped with hazelnuts and hollandaise of local organic red Miso of Hirai Akiko, duck from Sologne with celeriac mousseline, kale and red cabbage dropped in kumquat sauce or wild mushroom risotto topped with baby glazed onions and mature parmesan shavings.
