Amelia Schoolhouse Inn
Built in 1886 as the island’s first school, this evocative inn has recreated many of the building's original details (heart pine floors, repointed bricks, beautiful windows), though today no elementary school age kids are allowed at this adults-only facility. Guestrooms pay homage to both the age of the building, and its history, which means the quality pillowtop mattresses are swathed in a colorful quilts, and rooms have classic round schoolhouse clocks on the wall, next to world maps, with old timey globes on the desks. The “Principal’s Office” is the cheeky name for the inn’s bar; in the courtyard is a pool, putting green, and lots of seating. Staff here get an A+ for service, and the inn is set in the heart of downtown Fernardina Beach.
