Roman Amphitheater
The most spectacular and intact ruin in Jordan, and the heart of ancient Philadelphia, the Roman Amphitheater is at the very center of the crowded city—physically and historically. Dating from the 1st century, it could hold over 6,000 eager spectators. The theater faces north on a hillside, formerly an ancient necropolis, to shelter event-goers from the sun. A small temple is at the top.
