The perfect spot for sitting outside on a sunny day right opposite the Artis Royal Zoo and next door to the Dutch Resistance Museum, the cavernous interior of Plancius fills up quickly with wealthy local families and glamorous women loudly treating each other to lunch. Lunchtime menus offer carefully constructed brasserie-style dishes such as croque monsieur, organic burgers, satay chicken salad, or steak and fries, and there’s a calorific afternoon tea, plus two sittings for dinner (at 5:30 and 8:10pm). Excited kids who are impatient to visit the zoo get their own junior menu (pancakes, fries) and a coloring book to distract them from pestering their parents.
