The spectacular, smooth planes of the EYE form one of the coolest buildings in Amsterdam, with views through great glass windows over the ever-changing architectural horizons of the IJ waterway. Currently one of the hottest tickets in Amsterdam, with the suntrap terrace tables being the hottest of all, the bar-restaurant gets two stars for its location (take the free ferry from Buiksloterweg at Centraal Station), but one star for its gourmet offerings: insubstantial and predictably Dutch dishes are served during the day, offering strong Gouda cheeses, salads, soups, and quiches. The evening offerings are a little more imaginative, incorporating fish curries, steaks, and vegetarian risottos, but flickering nighttime views across the harbor more than compensate.
