Amsterdam’s biggest street market stretches for 1km ( 1/2 mile) and takes place Monday through to Saturday from 9am to 5pm. Although it is fast becoming a tourist attraction in its own right, the market still functions as the daily food market for De Pijp residents. Reflecting the multi-ethnic nature of the district, everything is on sale here from raw herring to sweet baklava pastries and rice noodles. It’s also the place to stock up on cheery patterned sarongs, flip-flops, daft headgear, and kitchen mops.
