A wonderfully inviting homestay-style bed and breakfast in a quiet neighborhood along Delaney Park (but well walking distance of everything downtown) this old house has a rich history. It was built in 1913, before Anchorge was founded, in what’s now a ghost town across Cook Inlet and the original wood flooring  squeaks musically as you walk through the kitchen. The hosts, Mark and Susan Lutz,  are genial downtown professionals, and the big breakfasts they prepare are satisflying, the room always filled with friendly conversation. Their home is warm, snug, and pleasantly cluttered with antiques. The three upstairs rooms are cozy and classy, with soft beds covered with fluffy comforters. The bathrooms come well stocked with fru-fru bath products and stacks of fluffy towels. The rates are reasonable. The biggest problem with Oscar Gill House is that it’s so damned popular you have to reserve a room well in advance to stay there in the summer, or else get really lucky. If you need a room on short notice, it’s definitely worth a call to test your luck.
