Getting There — If you’re driving, Annecy is near several highways: From Paris, take A6 southeast to Beaune and connect with A6/N6 south to Mâcon-Nord. Then follow A40 southeast towards Neydens, connecting with A41 going southeast to Annecy. Allow at least 5 hr. From Geneva, follow D1201 south toward Annecy, crossing the border near Archamps. Trip time is 30 min.

A car is useful but not essential in the Alps. Annecy has rail links with Paris and Lyon. Trains arrive hourly from Lyon via Chambery (trip time: 2.5 hr.), with a one-way fare costing from 20€. On most days, 17 trains arrive from Paris’s Gare de Lyon (trip time: around 5 hr., transfer at Lyon or Aix Les Bains); the fare is from 58€ one-way.
