Because of its relatively small population, Arles doesn’t offer as many nightlife options as Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, or Marseille. The town’s most appealing spot is the organic wine bar–café L'Ouvre-Boîte, 22 rue du Cloître (no phone). Open June to September only, it’s set under a majestic canopy of trees in one of the Old Town’s loveliest squares. Le Patio de Camargue, 49 chemin de Barriol (www.patiodecamargue.com; tel. 04-90-49-51-76), is a deservedly popular place south of town, spilling over the banks of the Rhône. The venue stages live folk music most nights. It’s owned by Chico Bouchikhi, one of the co-founders of the folk band Gipsy Kings.
