Neary 2 million fragments of tile went into the 6000 meters (19,600 feet) of brilliantly colorful mosaics that adorn many of the surfaces of this singular hotel, an establishment made up of buildings from the 15th, 18th and 20th centuries (notably a historic hôtel particulier or grand mansion). Add to this walls painted in every color of the rainbow, sculptural chandeliers, and brightly-hued handmade furniture and the effect is kaleidoscopic—often dizzyingly so. Some love artist/designer Jorge Pardo’s work here, others find it over the top.
