A dive bar (there's even a neon-sign reading "dive" in one corner) with an unexpectedly inventive menu, the Admiral has morphed into a destination restaurant over the years. But heading to this cinder-block, hole in the wall, in a funkier section of Asheville, still feels like an adventure. Just don't head here without a reservation, as this is one of the most popular eateries in town. Much of that has to do with the food, which is sourced from local farmers and darn good, whether you're dining on the house BBQ; octopus tostada with pickled vegetables and re-fried lima beans; or a curry fried chicken. The menu is constantly changing, but if the lime and lemongrass brûlée is offered, ditch your diet. This tangy, salty, sweet confection may well be one of the best desserts in town.
