Wheeler/Stallard House Museum

Jerome B. Wheeler made his money in the local silver business, building this beautiful Queen Anne-style home 5 years before the market collapsed in 1893. But Wheeler never really lived here—his wife would not leave Manitou Springs—thus the Stallard name, from a family who lived here for 40 years. Today it is a museum that offers a glimpse into the heyday of the Colorado silver boom as well as a changing series of temporary exhibits covering local history. For one admission, visitors can also tour the Holden/Marolt Mining and Ranching Museum, 40180 Colo. 82 (📞 970/544-0820). The onetime silver mill became a ranch in 1940. Allow 1 or 2 hours.
