The Alliance Theatre Company, under the direction of Susan V. Booth, is the largest regional theater in the Southeast. The company produces about 10 plays a year on three different stages, and the season runs from September through June, with occasional productions during the summer as well. Many well-known actors have played these stages, among them Jane Alexander, Richard Dreyfuss, Esther Rolle, and Morgan Freeman. Recent seasons have included Dickens's A Christmas Carol (performed annually); Lookingglass Alice; and the world première of Elton John and Tim Rice's musical Aida. The Alliance Children's Theatre presents plays geared to youngsters from January to May. Tickets for children's productions are $20 for adults and $15 for children. The box office is open Monday from 10am to 6pm, Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 8pm, Saturday from noon to 8pm, and Sunday from noon to 5pm. Most performances begin at 8pm, and children's performances are either 1 or 3:30pm on the weekends.
