Two words: bocce ball. The indoor bocce courts in the middle of the bar—and the league play all four seasons of the year—are what made Ormsby's famous. Although it's the great "neighborhood pub" atmosphere and the dozens of kinds of beer (sourced from Sri Lanka to Scotland) on tap or in bottles that are what keep the barstools filled. Ormsby's spans two levels and is decorated beautifully with wood, brick, and industrial accents. The décor lets you know this ain't no dive bar; it's a casual place where classy people come to have tasteful fun. The location in West Midtown just over the Interstate makes it popular with the commuting crowd; they can hop on over to the bar for a beer or three before heading home for the night. On top of bocce, there's also pool, backgammon, darts, and shuffleboard (all the favorite games of the slightly intoxicated). Ormsby's also has a full bar (plenty of spirits and wine available), as well as an extensive food menu covering typical pub fare of sandwiches and salads, alongside specialties like veal meatloaf, tilapia tacos, and bangers and mash. Snack on the pimento cheese and corn fritters combo while you get your game on. Just save room for dessert; there are some delightful and intriguing options like chocolate bread pudding topped with caramel or chai tea crème brûlée.
