Right on the edge of Lough Swilly, this delightful mid-18th-century mansion is one of our favorite places to stay in the northwest. The guest lounges are warm and hospitable, with sumptuous period décor and fires crackling in the hearth on cold days. Bedrooms are spacious and extremely comfortable; rooms in the modern extension lose nothing in terms of style and charm to the rooms in the older section of the house. Some have fireplaces and deep roll-top bathtubs. Superior rooms have even more space. Family rooms can work out to be only slightly more expensive than standard doubles. The house has a swimming pool, or you can take a short stroll down to the beach of the beautiful Lough. The Cook and Gardener ★★★ restaurant is outstanding, deserving its reputation as one of the top places to eat in Donegal; alternatively, the Tap Room bar serves stone-baked pizza and craft beers. Check the website for discounts and special rates—particularly outside the busiest times of year, when you can often find deals like dinner-bed-and-breakfast packages for around €115 per person—good value for a place like this.
