Getting There

By Train -- About 90 InterCity trains arrive here daily from all major German cities. For information, call tel. 01805/996633 or visit www.bahn.com. There are 60 trains a day from Munich (trip time: 30–50 min.) and 35 from Frankfurt (3–4 1/2 hr.).

By Bus -- For bus service along the Romantic Road, see “Bus Tours of the Romantic Road,” at the beginning of this chapter.

By Car -- Access is via the A8 Autobahn east and west. From Donauwörth, take Rte. 2 south.

Getting Around -- The Augsburger Verkehrs Verbund Gmbh (tel. 0821/157000; www.avv-augsburg.de) oversees the public transportation in Augsburg, consisting of four tram lines and 31 bus lines. They operate daily from 5am to midnight. It’s about a 10-minute walk from the station to the Rathausplatz at the center of the Altstadt (Old Town), along Prinzregentenstrasse and Grottenau Karlstrasse.
