In the Westlake section of Austin, this 227-acre peninsula is part of the larger Balcones Canyonland Preserve, which protects several protected species, including the golden warbler. It’s a lovely place to hike, with 2.5 miles of trails; it also serves as an ecological education center for St. Edwards University. Some of the programs offered to students are also open to the public.
