Comprising 347 acres, the first 40 of which were donated to the city by the wealthy German immigrant for whom the park is named, this is Austin's favorite public playground. Its centerpiece is Barton Springs Pool, but visitors and locals also flock to the Zilker Botanical Garden, the Austin Nature Preserves, and the Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum. See the "Staying Active" sections for details about the Lady Bird Lake canoe rentals.  Also see the listings for Austin Nature and Science Center and the Zilker Zephyr Miniature Train for activities for children.  In addition to its athletic fields (nine for soccer, one for rugby, and two multiuse), the park hosts a 9-hole disk (Frisbee) golf course and a sand volleyball court.
