Planning a trip to Auxerre
Arriving — Visitors often drive here because Auxerre is near A6/E15 (the Autoroute du Soleil) motorway from Paris. Some 11 TER trains run every hour from Paris (Gare de Bercy; trip time: 1 hr., 45 min.). For train information, visit www.sncf-connect.com or call tel. 36-35.
Visitor Information — The Office de Tourisme is at 7 place Hôtel de Ville (www.ot-auxerre.fr; tel. 03-86-52-06-19).
Getting Around
By Taxi — If you’re arriving by train you might want to book a taxi as the train station is about 1.5km (1 mile) from the main sights in the historic center. Contact tel. 03-86-46-91-61. There is also a taxi rank on rue Paul-Doumer at the station.
By Bike — You can rent bikes from La Maison du Vélo, pl. Achille Ribain (maison-velo.fr; tel. 03-86-46-24-99). Prices range from 6€ per hour to 80€ for 5 days.
By Shuttle—Free, pink-colored shuttle buses cross-cross the center from the outer ring roads roughly every 15 minutes. From the train station, walk 9 minutes to the stop at Quai de la République and get off at the stop Cordeliers, in the heart of the old town.
