Visitor Information -- The local EPT tourist office is at Via Due Principati 32A (tel. 0825-74732) and is open Monday through Friday 8:30am to 1:30pm.
You'll find a pharmacy (tel. 0825-35097) in Corso Vittorio Emanuele II. You will find a number of banks and ATMs along Corso Vittorio Emanuele II such as the Banca della Campania, Corso Vittorio Emanuele II 172 (tel. 0825-6511). The new hospital, San Giuseppe Moscati, is at Contrada Amoretta (tel. 0825-203111). For an ambulance, dial tel. 118. You can call the police at tel. 113 or 112. The post office (tel. 0825-781209) is at Via Francesco De Sanctis 3, off Corso Europa.
Special Events -- Avellino is famous for its Carnevale Irpino, the festival organized for the celebration of Carnival which includes traditional performances, the most famous of which is Zeza. Taking its name from the wife of Pulcinella, this musical farce narrates the adventures of the family when their daughter Porzia decides to get married to Don Zenobio. Getting Around
You can easily get around Avellino on foot. A number of bus lines (SITA; tel. 089-405145; www.sitabus.it) leave from Avellino to serve most villages in the area. In addition to major car-rental companies, Win Rent, Corso Umberto I 89 (tel. 0825-756237), is a good local agency.
Getting There
Avellino is easily reached by train from Benevento, Naples, and Salerno. Contact Trenitalia (tel. 892021 in Italy; www.trenitalia.it) for fares and information. Trains arrive at Avellino's train station, on Via Francesco Tedesco.
If you are arriving by car, take the AVELLINO exit off autostrada A16. You'll find a covered garage (tel. 0825-23574) on Via Terminio 20.
