You can't beat the location of the Hyatt Regency. It's about 50 yards  from the Convention Center and just a short walk across the pedestrian bridge to the harbor and all its attractions. Also within strolling distance are all of the great restaurants of Fells Point and Little Italy. I also like the hotel itself, because behind its all-glass facade are plenty of rooms with spectacular views of the harbor (not all have views, so ask if that's important for you). To keep the focus out those windows, the designers have decorated the guest rooms in soothing shades of aqua and beige; they're plush and well maintained.  Families may want to look into the suites that come with pull-out couch. The Hyatt still hangs on to the mini-bar and has added, at guests' requests, white-noise machines to all the rooms.
