This handsome Victorian stick–style inn, originally built in 1878, is one of the most notable properties on the "mansion row" along Mount Desert Street. Its distinctive architecture has been preserved, and was perhaps even enhanced during a 1987 addition of rooms, private bathrooms, and balconies. A 2020 refresh took the 19th-cottage feel, so that antique day beds  and wingback chairs are complemented by sharp patterned linens and upholstery, the vintage floral wallpaper in one room is offset by the nautical-chart wallpaper in another, and every room has a flatscreen and cool contemporary art (a few also have gas fireplaces and whirlpool tubs). Breakfasts of quiches, Belgian waffles, berry-smothered pancakes, and the like are a hit. Great porch swing too.
