For those who do not want to be isolated from the action on some secluded beach in the middle of nowhere, the Yellow Bird offers the best of both: A boutique inn with a small pool overlooking St. Lawrence Bay across the road, but right at the start of “The Gap,” the South Coast’s hip, happening stretch of restaurants, bars, and nightclubs (though they do have a restaurant on-site for nights you don’t feel like going out). Of course, being amid all the night spots also means this is not the hotel for the light sleeper or lover of Caribbean quiet. This is a self-catering hotel, so each uninspired but perfectly comfortable and spacious room comes with a kitchenette (and a balcony). The "deluxe" studios have been renovated more recently than the "superior," and come with nicer modular furnisings and flatscreen TVs. The handful of two-bedroom suites are really mini-apartments that can sleep up to six (kids under nine stay free).
