It is possible, while in Beersheva, to join a group tour for a visit to a Bedouin encampment and a Bedouin-style dinner. Ask at the tourist office across from the Central Bus Station. The cost will be anywhere from NIS 60 ($15/£7.50) for the "short visit," which consists of a chat with the sheik over coffee or tea, a camel ride, and Bedouin music, to about NIS 120 to NIS 150 ($30-$38/£15-£19) for the full "sunset visit" with Bedouin dinner, which includes the above as well as a typical rice, mutton, and fruit meal, eaten with the fingers or in pita. Prices include transportation, and can be higher if there are fewer than 25 people in the group. It is a good idea to phone ahead before reaching Beersheva to find out when the next group is going out.
