Focusing on traditional Chinese arts, this museum houses a large collection of ancient porcelain, bronze, calligraphy, and painting. The building itself is sleek and modern, with clever references to traditional Chinese architecture. Exhibits tell the story of Beijing's history and culture—a significant part of the collection of 200,000 relics was unearthed in the capital. Some (though not much) English explanation is included. Highlights include a section on hutongs and Chinese courtyard architecture and an area dedicated to Beijing opera, complete with costumes and staging. Bring your passport for free entry.
