Frommer's Staff

Adjacent to the National Museum and near the pine forest (usually closed), this historic track has held thoroughbred races since 1918. During the French administration, Beirut's elite would hang out here. These days it's more of a working-class weekend gathering spot and one of the few legal venues in the Arab world to legally place a bet. Even for non-racing fans, it's a fun afternoon with a good-natured assemblage of folks. Races are held every Sunday from 12:30pm (Sat from 1:30pm July and Aug).
