Beirut boasts top-range international hotels, historic favorites and, at long last, boutique hotels. Along the sweeping Corniche, some hotels have access to private beaches, although that often means sun loungers on the rocks. Most midrange rooms are located in Hamra, a buzzing, earthy spot with shops, coffeehouses and a student culture. The budget category is limited; Beirut is a city geared toward upscale tourism. High season is associated with the Islamic festivals of Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Azar (plus Christmas and New Year's) and July and August.
