Near the Belfast Cathedral, this atmospheric bar is a popular hangout with locals. The gastropub-style lunch menu is a real crowd-pleaser—soup of the day with crusty bread, haddock and chips, cheese and onion tarts, and so on. After lunch service, the menu shifts to nibbles and sharing bowls. It doesn't serve food in the evenings or any time on Sunday, but you may still want to drop by—the John Hewitt is one of the best spots in the city for live music, with bands every night from 9:30pm or 5:30pm on Saturday. Admission to gigs is usually free.
