Planning a trip to Benevento

You'll find a pharmacy (tel. 0824-21590) in Piazza Orsini 13. The hospital is Ospedale Fatebenefratelli, Viale Principe di Napoli 14 -16 (tel. 0824-771111). For an ambulance, dial tel. 118, or call the Croce Rossa Italiana (tel. 0824-315000). You can call the police at tel. 112 or 113. There is a post office (tel. 0824-24074; Mon-Sat 8am-2pm) in Piazza Colonna Vittoria, by the railway station.
Getting There
Benevento is well connected by train, with frequent services from Naples, Caserta, Avellino, and Rome. Contact Trenitalia (tel. 892021 in Italy; www.trenitalia.it) for fares and information. Trains arrive at Benevento's stazione located in Piazza Colonna 2, to the north of town. Benevento is also served by the Metro Campania Nord-Est line (tel. 800-053939 toll-free in Italy; www.metrocampanianordest.it) from Naples.
Marozzi (tel. 080-5790111; www.marozzivt.it) offers a regular bus service to and from Rome; use ETAC (tel. 0824-28321; www.etacsrl.it) to and from Salerno, or AIR Autoservizi Irpini (tel. 0825-2041; www.air-spa.it) to and from Avellino.
By car, take the autostrada A16 to the exit signed BENEVENTO and continue on the short stretch of highway to the town.
Getting Around
The center of Benevento is relatively small and accessible on foot; however, it extends uphill, so you might want to use public transportation as well. The town's bus system maintains a number of lines that crisscross the area; most leave from the hub across from the train station. Lines 1 and 7 both pass by Trajan's Arch, going up to the Rocca dei Priori in the heart of the historic district. You'll need to buy bus tickets at a tobacconist or a newsstand before boarding; tickets cost .65€ and are valid for 90 minutes. Taxis wait at the stand on Piazza Colonna, across from the railway station (or call tel. 0824-50341).
