This unusual design hotel in the hip heart of Mitte, offers centrally located digs that reflect the “new” Berlin. It’s casual and trendy at the same time, with comfy, low-to-the-floor sofas and coffee tables, room dividers with flat-screen TVs, and wonderfully comfortable beds with gleaming white linens offset by bright pink-and-fuchsia spreads. My only kvetch is that the lighting in the hallways is too artfully dim. But that’s a small complaint, and I have to give the Lux points for its suites with small kitchens, the open bathrooms equipped with rainshowers, and the property’s large closets (always a plus). Some of the rooms are more like apartments, making them perfect for longer stays. At street level you’ll find an Aveda spa, a fashion boutique…and an intriguing new area of rapidly gentrifying East Berlin to explore. You can easily walk to Hackescher Markt or Museum Island from here, or get anywhere in the city from the Alexanderplatz train station.
